Dogonbadan is the main town of Gachsaran County in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, southwestern Iran. It lies where the folded ridges of the Zagros meet lower ground. The Gachsaran oil field, one of the largest in the country, has shaped the town's growth and purpose since the twentieth century.
On the map, residential streets fill the flatter ground in fairly regular blocks, while the surrounding hills appear as the long parallel folds typical of the Zagros foothills. Roads, oil facilities and housing spread along the valley. The town is often simply called Gachsaran, after the field that sustains it.
