Duderstadt Map Poster & Print
Duderstadt is the historic centre of the Eichsfeld region in southern Lower Saxony, close to the border with Thuringia. Its map has a very clear shape. The old town forms a compact oval, still enclosed by the line of its former fortifications. Today that line is a green, tree-lined ring that separates the historic core from the newer districts outside it.
Inside the ring, the streets are lined with hundreds of half-timbered houses, and the town hall is among the oldest in Germany. The best-known landmark is the Westerturm, a medieval gate tower whose spire is visibly twisted. It stands at the western edge of the old town, where the main street leaves through the wall.
