Efon-Alaaye lies in the west of Ekiti State, in a part of south-western Nigeria defined by hills. The town sits in rugged, forested terrain, and its streets follow the land rather than a plan, curving along lower ground and climbing where the slopes allow. On a map, this produces an irregular web of roads with open, green space pressing in on several sides.
Efon-Alaaye is a traditional Yoruba town, the seat of its own king, the Alaaye of Efon, and the headquarters of a local government area. The surrounding hills and woodland have long shaped both how the town grew and how it is reached, with roads threading through high ground toward neighbouring towns in Ekiti and Osun states.
