El Mansouria stretches along Morocco's Atlantic coast in Casablanca-Settat, between the port city of Mohammedia and the resort town of Bouznika. From above the most striking thing is the coastline itself, a long, gently curving edge where sand meets open ocean. The town is laid out parallel to it, in a shallow strip rather than a compact core.
Inland, the coastal road and the rail line between Casablanca and Rabat run in near-parallel bands, and the streets of El Mansouria fill the space between them and the sea. Holiday residences and newer neighbourhoods give some areas a regular block pattern, while the older parts are looser. Beyond, the land opens into agricultural plains.
An El Mansouria map poster is essentially a portrait of that coast: an edge of white ocean, the stacked lines of road and rail, and the grid in between. It is a strong graphic subject, since so much of the frame is taken up by water, and it translates well to the minimal black-and-white style.
