Elda Map Poster
Elda lies in the Vinalopó valley in the province of Alicante. The Vinalopó River runs through the town, and dry, rocky hills surround it. On the map Elda merges with the neighbouring town of Petrer to the east. The two form one continuous built-up area, and the municipal boundary is barely noticeable.
The town has long been known for footwear, and it has a museum dedicated to shoemaking. Its old centre, near the ruins of the castle, is made up of narrow, irregular streets. Around it lie the orderly blocks of the twentieth-century expansion, built during the industrial boom, as well as factory sites on the outskirts.
