Evere is one of the nineteen municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region, lying in the north-east of the city next to Schaerbeek. From above, it combines dense residential streets in the older parts with larger blocks, office sites and green spaces toward its outer edges. Main boulevards cross the commune and link it with central Brussels and the airport beyond.
The headquarters of NATO stands on the edge of Evere, a large complex that shows on the map as a distinct, carefully planned shape. The commune is also home to the Brussels Cemetery, a large nineteenth-century cemetery with tree-lined avenues arranged in a formal pattern. These two sites give Evere a very particular footprint within the city.
