Farias Brito is a municipality in the south of Ceará, in the semi-arid interior of northeastern Brazil. The town itself is compact, and on the map it appears as a small grid of streets gathered around a centre, with the landscape opening out quickly beyond its edges.
The surrounding land is typical of the sertão: dry for much of the year, crossed by seasonal streams and rural roads that connect farms and small communities. These roads show up as long, thin lines across the frame, some straight and some following the lie of the land.
