Freiberg am Neckar lies in the Ludwigsburg district, north of Stuttgart, on the Neckar River. The town was formed in the early 1970s when the villages of Beihingen, Geisingen and Heutingen were merged, and on a map these original cores are still visible as separate knots of streets.
The Neckar curves past on the town's side, and the land around it rises to slopes where vineyards are part of the scenery, as in many places along this stretch of the river. Newer residential areas have filled in the space between the old villages over the decades.
