Frontino lies in western Antioquia, on the flank of the Andes' Western Cordillera, several hours by road from Medellín. From above, the town is a small, dense grid of blocks laid onto sloping ground, with streets bending where the land grows steep. Around it the map fills with mountain ridges, stream valleys and rural roads that climb to farms and villages.
The municipality covers a large and varied territory, from warm lower valleys to cool, cloud-covered heights. Part of Las Orquídeas National Natural Park, known for its wildlife and its many orchid species, lies within the wider area. Farming, including coffee and cattle, shapes the landscape around the town and the pattern of rural roads that serve it.
