Galūgāh lies in the east of Māzandarān province, in the narrow lowland between the Caspian Sea and the northern slopes of the Alborz. It sits between Behshahr and Bandar-e Gaz, along the main road and railway that follow the coast. On a map that position is its defining feature: the town is pressed into a strip with water on one side and rising ground on the other.
The built-up area follows the east–west transport lines, with residential streets extending north toward farmland and the coast, and south toward the wooded hills. Rice fields, orchards and small canals fill the flat land around the town, forming a fine pattern of plots that contrasts with the denser streets in the centre.
A Galūgāh map poster shows a typical Caspian landscape in miniature. Framed wide, it includes the coastline and the lagoon waters of the Gorgan Bay area to the east, and the start of the hill forests to the south, with the town as a band of streets in between.
