The Benue River
The broad river curves past the city with sandbanks and shifting channels, and it gives the map a strong, organic line on one side.

Garoua Map Poster & Print
Garoua is the capital of Cameroon's North Region, and it sits on the Benue River, which flows west into Nigeria and joins the Niger. The river has long shaped the city. In the high-water season it has served as a route for boats heading downstream, which made Garoua an unusual inland port for the region.
From above, the Benue is the city's main feature: a wide band of water and sandbanks with a changing, braided edge. The city spreads out from its bank in a mix of straight avenues and denser, irregular neighbourhoods. Main roads lead away across the flat savanna toward the rest of the north.
A Garoua map poster places the river at the centre and lets the street pattern spread from it. In monochrome, the soft outline of the Benue contrasts with the harder lines of the city blocks. It is a picture of a northern city whose trade and daily life have followed the river for generations.

River port heritage
Seasonal navigation downstream toward Nigeria once made Garoua an important inland port, linking the north of Cameroon with river trade.
Avenues and quarters
Straight main avenues cross the city, surrounded by denser, more irregular neighbourhoods, and the two patterns sit side by side on the map.
