Gates-North Gates is a census-designated place covering the built-up part of the town of Gates, directly west of the city of Rochester in Monroe County. It is a mature inner suburb, and its map shows a dense network of residential streets from the middle decades of the twentieth century. Houses sit on regular lots, and the pattern is interrupted only by the larger blocks of shopping plazas, schools and parks.
What gives the area its distinctive shape is transport.
