Ghātanji is a town in Yavatmal district, in the Vidarbha region of eastern Maharashtra. The surrounding land is flat to gently rolling farm country, where cotton is a major crop. On the map, the town is a compact grid of streets with a clear edge, and field boundaries and farm tracks spread out in every direction.
The town serves as a local centre for the villages around it, and the map shows this clearly. Several roads meet in town, bringing traffic from the countryside to the market area, while the older lanes near the centre are shorter and closer together than the newer streets on the edges.
