Ghosī is a town in the Mau district of eastern Uttar Pradesh, on the wide, flat alluvial plain of the Ganges basin. The land here is almost level, and from above it is covered by a fine patchwork of fields, divided into small plots and crossed by tracks, canals and seasonal watercourses. Villages appear as dense clusters dotted across the plain.
The town itself is a compact, irregular knot of streets, with a market area at its centre and roads leading out in several directions to the district headquarters and neighbouring towns. Ponds and tanks are scattered through and around the settlement, and they show on a map as small, open shapes among the buildings.
