Gohāna lies in Sonipat district, on the level alluvial plain north-west of Delhi. From above, the town is a dense, irregular core of lanes and bazaars. Newer colonies and roads spread outwards from it. Around it all, the flat fields of Haryana are cut by irrigation canals and field boundaries, and villages sit at steady intervals.
The town is a local centre for trade and services for the surrounding farming villages. It is also widely known for one sweet. Gohana's jalebi is unusually large and heavy, sold by weight and famous across north India. Travellers on the roads through town often stop to buy it.
