Gohouo lies in the Montagnes district of western Ivory Coast, a region of rolling hills, patches of forest and farmland that rises toward higher ground near the borders with Liberia and Guinea. The town is small, and its map shows it: a central cluster of streets where the roads meet, surrounded by a looser pattern of houses and tracks leading into the countryside.
