The old ksar
The historic town is a tight cluster of lanes and houses on raised ground. It forms the densest, most intricate part of the map.

Guerara Map Poster & Print
From above, Guerara shows the classic form of a Saharan fortified town. The old ksar is a compact knot of narrow lanes on raised ground, and the newer districts spread out around it in more regular blocks. Next to the town, the palm grove appears as a large green patch, divided by paths and irrigation channels, against the open desert beyond.
Guerara is in the Ghardaïa province of Algeria, in the northern Sahara, and is one of the Mozabite towns associated with the M'zab region. Like its neighbours, it was built around a mosque on a hilltop, with houses stepping down the slopes. The palm grove has long been the source of the town's water and food.
A Guerara map poster makes the most of the contrast between the dense ksar and the open land around it. The tight lanes of the old town give the print intense detail, while the palm grove and desert provide space. It is a striking, architectural map of a town adapted to the desert.

Palm grove
Beside the town, the palm grove spreads across the lower ground, divided by paths and channels. On the print it forms a textured, quieter area next to the ksar.
Desert edges
Beyond the town and grove, the map opens into empty land. The contrast shows how carefully the settlement was placed in the landscape.
