Gul’kevichi is a town in Krasnodar Krai, in southern Russia, on the wide, fertile plain of the Kuban region. It grew up around a railway station, and the line through town still sets its layout. Streets follow a regular pattern of rectangular blocks, which is typical of settlements that expanded outward from a station on open, level ground.
On a map, the railway is the strongest straight line. The town's grid is arranged beside it, and long roads leave for surrounding villages across the farmland. The Kuban River flows nearby with its looser meanders, a softer counterpart to the rigid town plan. Large field plots fill much of the space in between.
