Huankou is a town in the north of Jiangsu province, in Feng County in the Xuzhou area, close to the border with Shandong. The land here is part of the North China Plain, flat and almost entirely cultivated. The map is shaped by the geometry of farming rather than by hills or coastline.
The town centre is a denser cluster of streets where the main roads meet, surrounded by residential blocks and village settlements. Field boundaries and irrigation ditches draw a regular pattern across the countryside around it, and tree-lined roads run in long straight lines between the villages.
