Huruta is a town in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, in the highland farming country south-east of Addis Ababa. From above, its layout is simple and practical: a main road passing through, a cluster of streets around the centre and a looser fringe of houses and compounds that gradually gives way to cultivated land. The fields around it form a fine patchwork across the gently rolling terrain.
Life in and around Huruta is closely tied to agriculture. The highland climate supports cereals and other crops, and the town acts as a local hub for trade and services for the surrounding rural communities.
