Ikalamavony is a town in the Upper Matsiatra region of Madagascar's southern highlands, west of the regional capital Fianarantsoa. It is a quiet administrative centre for a large, thinly settled district. On the map it appears as a modest gathering of streets and plots with a main road running through, and around it the countryside spreads out in every direction with few interruptions.
The pleasure of this drawing is its restraint. There is no dense grid or long waterfront, only a small centre, the lines of tracks leading to outlying villages, and a great deal of open space.
