Ilongero is in the Singida Region of central Tanzania, on the high plateau a short distance northeast of the town of Singida. This is dry, open country with seasonal rains, scattered granite outcrops and farmland worked by small households. Settlements here tend to be spread out rather than packed around a single centre.
On the map, that pattern appears as a web of tracks and footpaths linking homesteads, fields and a small central cluster of buildings. The road toward Singida gives the drawing its main axis. The rest of the lines are irregular, following the lie of the land and the edges of the plots.
