Imbé Map Poster
Imbé lies on the northern coast of Rio Grande do Sul, on a narrow strip of flat, sandy land between the Atlantic Ocean and a system of coastal lagoons. It is mainly a beach town. Its population rises sharply in summer, and much of the housing consists of holiday homes set in a long, regular grid parallel to the shore.
The town faces Tramandaí across the channel where the lagoon system opens to the sea, and a bridge links the two. This channel mouth is known for an unusual cooperation: local fishermen and bottlenose dolphins work together to catch mullet, with the dolphins signalling to the men with nets.

Lagoon channel
The channel between the lagoons and the ocean separates Imbé from Tramandaí. It is where fishermen and dolphins are known to fish together, and the bridge across it joins the towns.
Beach street grid
