Indi is a town and taluk headquarters in Vijayapura district, in northern Karnataka. It lies on the Deccan plateau, where the land is flat and largely open. On a map the town appears as a compact cluster of streets inside a wide expanse of fields, with roads spreading out toward neighbouring villages and towns.
The street pattern is dense in the centre and loosens toward the outskirts, where newer housing and roads extend into the farmland. The region is known for dryland agriculture. The rural landscape around Indi reads as a network of thin tracks and field boundaries, which gives the edges of the map a sparse, almost geometric quality.
