Ipirá lies in the interior of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil, in a region of dry, open land where cattle ranching has long been important. On a map, the town forms a compact cluster of streets set within a wide landscape of pasture and scrub, with roads stretching away toward neighbouring towns.
