Jiangyan is a district of Taizhou in central Jiangsu, on the low, flat plain north of the Yangtze known as Lixiahe. Water is everywhere on the map. Rivers, canals and small lakes cross the district in a dense network, and the town districts are built along them, with bridges and waterside streets linking the built-up areas.
The best-known feature is the Qinhu wetland area, a lake and marsh landscape north of the main town. It is home to the Qintong boat festival, held each spring, when hundreds of decorated boats gather on the water. The event is one of the most distinctive folk celebrations in the region and draws large crowds.
