Jiuchi Map Poster
Jiuchi is a town in the municipality of Chongqing, near Wanzhou in the Three Gorges region along the Yangtze. The land here is steep and folded, and settlements follow the ground closely. On the map, streets rarely run straight for long. They bend along the slopes, climb between terraces and gather wherever the land is flat enough to build on.
The rise of the Yangtze behind the Three Gorges Dam reshaped the whole region. Old riverside towns were flooded, and much was rebuilt on higher ground. Around Jiuchi, roads trace long switchbacks up and down the hillsides, and the surrounding land is divided into small, irregular plots. On paper the result is a winding web of lines rather than a regular grid.
A Jiuchi map poster shows a side of Chongqing far from the dense towers of the city centre, in the hill country along the Yangtze.
