Kalavoor is in Alappuzha district in Kerala, on the narrow strip of land between the Arabian Sea and the backwaters inland. On the map, this setting makes the place long rather than round: settlement follows the coast north to south, with a clean shoreline on one side and water channels on the other.
A major coastal road runs the length of the strip, and most of the lanes connect to it. Houses spread through coconut groves, so the street pattern is loose and green rather than packed into blocks. Toward the inland side, lines of water and field banks increasingly take over from roads.
