Kallakkurichchi lies in northern Tamil Nadu, on flat agricultural land that stretches east from the Kalvarayan Hills. In 2019 it became the headquarters of the newly created Kallakurichi District, carved out of Viluppuram, and the town has been growing since. Its centre is a dense cluster of commercial streets around the main road junctions, surrounded by residential quarters and farmland.
From above, the most striking elements are the irrigation tanks scattered across the landscape, their curved embankments holding rainwater for the surrounding fields. Roads radiate outward from the town toward neighbouring settlements, crossing channels and farm tracks. To the west, the Kalvarayan Hills rise from the plain, a forested range that frames the horizon and is known for its hill villages and waterfalls.
