Karumālūr is a panchayat in Ernakulam district in Kerala, north of Aluva and close to the Periyar River. From above, it looks very different from a compact town. Houses line winding roads and lanes spread across a green landscape of coconut groves, paddy fields and small water bodies, so there is no single clear centre.
This dispersed pattern is typical of much of central Kerala, where towns and villages merge into one another along roads and waterways. On a map, the streets form a loose, branching network rather than a grid, and the river and its channels give the landscape its structure. Kochi's metropolitan area lies a short distance to the south.
