Kattumannarkoil lies in Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu, on the low, fertile plain at the northern edge of the Cauvery delta. From above, the town gathers around its temple, with streets arranged near the sacred centre and neighbourhoods extending outward into irrigated farmland crossed by channels and embankments.
The Veera Narayana Perumal temple is the town's principal landmark, and Kattumannarkoil is traditionally regarded as the birthplace of Nathamuni, an early teacher in the Sri Vaishnava tradition. Nearby lies Veeranam lake, a large tank that irrigates the surrounding area and also supplies water to Chennai.
