Khāpa is a municipal town in the Nagpur district of Maharashtra, north of the city of Nagpur. It stands beside the Kanhan River, and the river is the strongest line on its map. The water curves along the edge of the town, and the older streets stay close to it, while newer building spreads along the roads that lead away from the bank.
The Kanhan is one of the rivers of the Vidarbha plain. It flows south toward the Wainganga system, and its wide sandy bed shapes the landscape around Khāpa. Farmland lies beyond the town in the other directions, and roads link it to Nagpur and the surrounding tehsil. The town is small, but it has the settled, layered look of a place that has served its area for a long time.
