Kollo lies in the Tillabéri Region of Niger, southeast of Niamey, close to the Niger River. From above, the town looks like a compact settlement on dry ground. Its streets are mostly regular and unpaved, and around them are open plains and fields along the river. A main road links it to the capital and to the south.
The river shapes life here. Its floodplain supports rice and market gardens, and during the rainy season the channels and wet ground expand. Kollo is also a local administrative centre, serving the surrounding villages. The town is small, but it plays a practical role in this stretch of the Niger valley.
