Kondotty is in the Malappuram district of northern Kerala, in the green, undulating inland country of the Malabar region. On a map it does not form a tight grid. Buildings stretch along main roads and spread across low hills, with trees and paddy land in between. That is typical of Kerala, where town and countryside tend to blend together.
Calicut International Airport lies at Karipur, just outside the town. Its runway is one of the most distinctive shapes in the area, a long straight line laid across hilly ground. A Kondotty map poster sets that engineered strip against the looser, winding network of roads and lanes around it.
