Koro is a town in the Mopti Region of central Mali, near the border with Burkina Faso. It lies on the Seno plain, the broad, flat country below the Bandiagara escarpment, an area closely associated with Dogon communities. The town serves as a centre for surrounding villages that grow millet and other dryland crops.
From above, Koro's map is loose and horizontal. The streets are broad and often unpaved, and they enclose compounds instead of dense blocks. Beyond the town, footpaths and cart tracks spread in many directions across the plain, linking it to villages and fields. A few more defined roads connect it with the wider region.
