Kusum Pur is a neighbourhood in South Delhi, close to Vasant Vihar and the wooded stretches of the Delhi Ridge, the northern tail of the Aravalli hills. The ground here is rocky and uneven, and the settlement developed on it in a very different way from the planned colonies and broad roads that surround it.
On the map the contrast is striking. Inside Kusum Pur, lanes are narrow and closely spaced, forming an intricate mesh of tiny blocks. Around it, the city opens into larger plots, curving arterial roads and generous patches of green, including ridge forest and landscaped grounds.
