Kuthalam is a town in Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu, located in the Kaveri delta near the town of Mayiladuthurai. The delta is a flat, low landscape crossed by branches of the Kaveri and a dense network of irrigation channels. On the map, these waterways create long, winding lines that pass through the fields and near the town.
The town has a compact centre where streets converge near a temple, a common pattern in delta towns, and lanes extend outward toward the surrounding villages. Beyond the built-up area the map is dominated by paddy fields, divided into small plots, with rows of trees and embankments along the channels.
