La Nucia lies in the Marina Baixa district of Alicante, a short way inland from Benidorm, on slopes that rise from the coastal plain towards the mountains. On a map, the difference from the grid of the resort below is obvious. Here streets curve across the hillsides, following the contours and climbing in switchbacks.
The small historic centre sits on a rise, a compact group of lanes around the church. Much of the modern town is made up of residential developments spread over the surrounding hills, where roads loop between villas and gardens. The town is also known for its large municipal sports complex, which hosts events in many disciplines.
