La Valette-du-Var lies just east of Toulon, where the coastal plain meets the mountains. To the north rises Mont Coudon, a steep limestone peak whose slopes stay almost entirely free of streets. Below it, the town spreads south and west in a mix of old lanes, villa neighbourhoods and newer development.
The historic village core is small and tightly woven, with the narrow, winding streets typical of Provence. Around it, the town has grown into Toulon's suburbs. Major roads and commercial areas fill the lower ground, and residential districts climb as far up the hillsides as the terrain allows.
