Lagoa Vermelha, whose name means red lagoon, is a town on the plateau of northern Rio Grande do Sul, in the south of Brazil. The land here is high and gently rolling, with farmland and grassland stretching between scattered patches of woodland, and the climate is noticeably cooler than in much of the country. The town serves as a centre for the surrounding farming district.
