Leku is a town in the Sidama Region of southern Ethiopia, in the highland country east of the Rift Valley. From above, it is a modest cluster of streets gathered around a main road, with the built-up area thinning quickly into farmland. The surrounding landscape is densely cultivated, and on a map small tracks and footpaths web across the land between homesteads.
The street pattern is informal rather than planned. A few principal roads carry most of the town's structure, and side lanes branch off at irregular angles, following property lines and the gentle fall of the ground. On a minimalist print that produces a loose, organic network, darker along the main axes and fading into open space around the edges.
Sidama is one of Ethiopia's best-known coffee-growing areas, and the countryside around towns like Leku is shaped by smallholder farming. A Leku map poster doesn't claim more than the map shows: a highland market town, its roads, and the working landscape around it.
