Liangping is the central town of Liangping District in northeastern Chongqing. The area is known for its relatively flat basin, which is unusual in a region dominated by long, parallel mountain ridges running northeast to southwest. On a map, the town spreads across this level ground, with streets extending more freely than in steep, riverside Chongqing towns.
Liangping is known for its pomelos, a citrus fruit grown widely in the district, and for Shuanggui Temple, a Buddhist monastery with a long history in the area. The flat land has made farming important here, and around the built area the map shows fields and small settlements scattered across the basin.
