Lochristi is a municipality in East Flanders, just east of Ghent. From above, it looks like a set of village centres linked by roads that run through a patchwork of fields and horticultural plots. The larger roads toward Ghent and Antwerp cut across the frame in firm lines.
The area is best known for begonias. Lochristi has long been a centre of begonia cultivation, and its begonia festival, with a large flower carpet, has drawn visitors for decades. Greenhouses and nursery plots show on the map as regular rectangles scattered among the fields.
