Mahapleu is in the Montagnes district of western Ivory Coast, a hilly and heavily wooded part of the country toward the borders with Liberia and Guinea. The map shows a town built along a few connecting roads. Its centre is fairly dense, and the edges thin out into scattered compounds and cultivated plots, where the street pattern follows the land rather than a surveyor's grid.
From above, the most noticeable thing is how the roads bend. They curve around slopes and streams, then branch into smaller tracks that lead out to fields and nearby villages. In a region of rolling terrain, even a small town ends up with an organic, almost hand-drawn outline. Clusters of buildings gather where routes meet, and green space fills most of the frame between them.
