Malacky Map Poster
Malacky is the main town of the western Záhorie lowland, a short drive north of Bratislava. It lies between the Little Carpathians to the east and the Morava, which forms the border with Austria, to the west. On a map it reads as a dense centre with streets fanning outward, a railway line along one side, and fields and extensive pine woods all around.
The historic core gathers around a manor house of the Pálffy family and its large landscaped park, which shows up as an open, softly edged green block beside the tight town streets. Nearby stand a Franciscan monastery and church. The town is also known for its former synagogue, built in a Moorish-inspired style that is unusual for the region.
Beyond the centre, housing estates and districts of family homes extend in regular blocks, and the Malina stream crosses the town.
