Manjeri is a town in Malappuram district in northern Kerala, set inland on uneven ground of low hills and green valleys. On a map the centre is a compact junction of roads, with homes scattered along lanes that follow the higher ground and drop into the greener hollows between, a pattern typical of settlement across this part of the state.
The town works as a regional centre for the surrounding area, with markets, schools and a government medical college drawing people from nearby villages. Its growth has followed the main roads, so the densest building runs out from the centre in several directions rather than filling a single compact circle.
