Maple Valley lies in southeast King County, where the Puget Sound lowland starts rising toward the Cascades. The city was incorporated in 1997, and on the map it reads as newer suburban country: winding collector roads, looping cul-de-sacs, and neighbourhoods set among tall conifers, with no traditional downtown grid.
Water breaks up the plan throughout. Lake Wilderness sits near the centre, surrounded by a park, and a scattering of smaller lakes and wetlands appears as pale shapes between the streets. The Cedar River curves along the northern side, followed by a regional trail on an old rail line. A Maple Valley map poster traces all of these as clean, irregular outlines.
