Marigliano Map Poster & Print
Marigliano is a town in the Metropolitan City of Naples, set on the flat agricultural plain that stretches northeast of the city toward Nola. The land here is volcanic and fertile, and the map shows a dense historic core surrounded by fields, orchards and outlying hamlets, with the cone of Vesuvius only a short distance to the south.
The oldest part of town is a tight knot of streets and courtyards, typical of the Campanian plain, where buildings enclose inner spaces and lanes meet at irregular angles. Around it, newer neighbourhoods follow the lines of roads leading out toward neighbouring towns, and a railway links Marigliano with Naples and the interior.
The town's name is often traced to a Roman estate associated with the Marius family, a reminder of how long this plain has been settled and farmed.
