Mediouna lies a short distance south-east of Casablanca, in the Casablanca-Settat region, and gives its name to the surrounding province. On a map it shows up as a compact settlement where several routes meet. Flat farmland divided into regular parcels stretches away on every side. The contrast between the dense centre and the open ground around it is the first thing the eye picks up.
Mediouna belongs to the Chaouia, the broad coastal plain that has long supplied grain and produce to Casablanca. As Morocco's largest city has grown outward, new housing and roads have edged closer. The map records that meeting point: older lanes at the core, newer grids at the margins, and highways drawing lines toward the city to the north-west.
