Menlo Park sits midway down the San Francisco Peninsula, between Palo Alto and Redwood City. The map reads in bands. El Camino Real and the Caltrain line run through the older centre, quiet tree-lined residential streets spread out on either side, and to the east the city reaches the flat bay shore, with its marshes and the approach to the Dumbarton Bridge.
San Francisquito Creek marks much of its border with Palo Alto, and Stanford's lands lie just beyond. The city is home to SRI International, a long-running research institute. Near the bay stands the headquarters campus of Meta, whose buildings occupy a large stretch of former industrial land by the water.
